Nottingham on paper
The Trent closes the southern edge of the frame, broad and steady, with the bridges crossing it and the grounds and meadows along both banks. Between the river and the centre the streets run in long straight runs, and then the centre itself opens: the market square prints as a large hard rectangle, and the streets fan away from it in the pattern of a place that has been a market town since long before the lace trade.
The Park Estate is the surprise. West of the castle rock, a set of private crescents spirals inwards in concentric curves with almost no through routes — a Victorian estate laid out as a series of rings, and on a map it looks like nothing else in the city. Immediately east, the Lace Market's blocks are the opposite: short, tight, industrial, built for warehouses rather than houses.
The rest of the frame is radial. The main roads leave the centre in every direction, terraces combed off them in regular rows, and the Forest Recreation Ground sits north as a big pale block where the streets stop. The ring road holds the edges. Seven kilometres across reaches from the Trent to Sherwood, and from Beeston's edge to Sneinton. Bring it in to two and the crescents, the castle and the Lace Market fill the paper together.

Do the caves show?
No. The print draws what is on the surface — streets, water, parks and coastline — and the caves are beneath it. The castle rock shows as the street-free block the streets divert around.
Is the Park Estate drawn in full?
Yes, crescent by crescent. It is a set of private streets, and the map holds them, so the spiral reads clearly at the city frame and beautifully at two kilometres.
Can I include both the Trent and Wollaton?
Seven kilometres across holds the river and reaches the edge of Wollaton Park. Frame nine or ten and the park comes in fully, at the cost of some of the detail in the centre.
Where does the map come from?
OpenStreetMap, through OpenFreeMap’s vector tiles — the same data the race prints draw. Nothing is invented: if a street is missing it is missing from the map, and anyone can add it at openstreetmap.org.
Can I print somewhere near Nottingham instead?
